My visit to Gomel

Because my supervisor at university had to go there, I had the possibility to visit Gomel for one day. I discovered the interesting city by myself.
Gomel has 600'000 inhabitants and is situated in the south-east of Belarus, near the Russian and the Ukrainian border, on the bank of river Sož.
The center of the city is along Sovjetskaja street. The main attractions in Gomel are the residence of the Rumjancev family and the church and the park next to it.
Gomel and its surroundings still suffer very much from the consequences of the reactor accident in Chernobyl 1986. Large areas of the region are contamined by radioactive material.
